Het is 50 jaar geleden dat de Britse cultfilm The Wicker Man in de bioscopen verscheen. Speciaal voor dit jubileum is er nu een final cut versie van wat één van de beste horror/thrillers wordt genoemd, in 4K gerestaureerd.

Politie-inspecteur Howie van de Western Highland Police reist naar een klein Schots eilandje in particulier bezit om de verdwijning van een 12-jarig meisje te onderzoeken. Daar aangekomen bevreemdt het hem dat de dorpsbewoners totaal niet bezig lijken te zijn met de verdwijning. Ook blijkt dat er een mysterieuze levensinstelling is waar aparte rituelen, natuurverering, vrije seks en hekserij onderdeel van uitmaken. Wat begint als een routineonderzoek, verandert voor de vrome Howie langzaam in een angstaanjagende nachtmerrie.

 

Police Inspector Howie of the Western Highland Police travels to a small, privately owned Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl. Once there, he is surprised that the villagers do not seem to be concerned with the disappearance at all. It also appears that there is a mysterious attitude to life that includes separate rituals, nature worship, free sex and witchcraft. What starts as a routine investigation slowly turns into a terrifying nightmare for the devout Howie. One of the best British horrors!
