DDW2024: Melted Film Festival

TrailerTickets

Melted Film Festival

is a screening platform for experimental filmmaking practices. This year, its second edition will take place over four evenings at LAB-1 during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

Curated and moderated by Design Academy Eindhoven alumni (collectives Future Number Five and geo.frames), the festival aims to respond to the growing interest in film as a medium within the school, and within the design community at large. The selected works were gathered via an open call and grouped around complementary themes giving an insight into the urgencies and curiosities of our time.

Each evening offers a diverse selection of films, ranging from documentary-style works to conceptual pieces, found footage to animations, and essay films to speculative fiction.

Tue 22nd NIGHT 1

Night 1 Poster

On the opening night of Melted Film Festival, we delve into explorations of the earth, examining natural resources and chemical composition. This collection of films zooms in on the intricate details of the microscopic, while also extending the view to vast infrastructures and beyond-human time scales. When we then return our attention to the human experience we are reminded of our need to study and imagine to make sense of this world we live in.

Wed 23rd NIGHT 2

Night 2 Poster

On the second evening of Melted Film Festival, we welcome filmmakers whose work revolves around themes of identity and belonging. Traversing both the physical and digital realms, we are guided through explorations of the self, both as an individual and part of a collective. Navigating the fluidity of our identities, these films immerse the viewers into rituals, folklore, and myth.

Thu 24th NIGHT 3

Night 3 Poster

On the third evening, Melted Film Festival presents pieces that investigate how we honor, overpower, and divide the territories we share, as well as how the places we inhabit can determine the nature of our lives. From documentary to performance, we dance between the idyllic serenity of the land and the realities of human intervention.

Fri 25th NIGHT 4

Night 4 Poster

The final night of Melted Film Festival is a reflection on the medium of film itself. These filmmakers offer us a glimpse into lives lived, by simply capturing a fleeting moment, realizing a bright idea or meticulously weaving together a narrative. From absurd visuals to audio-only, this experimental collection challenges what we expect from cinema.
