Leather jackets and tracksuits, tough guys and gazelles, love and rugby. All this and more in the film Pietinia Kronikas, based on the bestselling novel of the same name.
The cult novel Pietinia Kronikas by Šiauliai-born writer Rimantas Kmita makes its way to the big screen.
The late 1990s. In the Pietinia district of Šiauliai—nicknamed the city of Vandams and Schwarzs—lives Rimants (played by Džiugas Grinys), a true streetwise bachūrs. Like any real tough guy, he sports tracksuits, throws on a leather jacket for special occasions, sells clothes at the market with his buddy Minde (played by Robertas Petraitis), and plays rugby—much to the distress of his mother, who sees the sport as pure madness. But as Rimants himself says, what else is there to do besides rugby?
Then Rimants falls for Monika (played by Digna Kulionytė)—but he has no idea what he’s getting himself into. Sure, she’s a stunning girl, but also a little wild. And well, what wouldn’t you do for love? Suddenly, Rimants finds himself reading books, writing poetry… and questioning everything. What’s the point of it all? Should he just follow the crowd, or start thinking for himself?
This coming-of-age comedy also stars Irena Sikorskytė, Dainius Gavenonis, Rasa Samuolytė, Vaidotas Martinaitis, Julius Žalakevičius, and more.
